Himalayan Permaculturists
Chris Evans has kindly contributed the song ' Naruna (Dharti Mata)' meaning 'Don't Cry (Mother Earth)' to the 'Earth Stars' CD. The song is one of eight from a CD produced by Chris (of Appropriate Technology Asia) and friends in permaculture-related programmes in Nepal, recorded at Radio Nepal's studios in Surkhet in 1995. The song goes on to describe farmer-activists working in remote areas of upland Nepal, planting trees on the bare slopes of the Himalayas to make the land more productive again.
The songs became very popular with farmers and controversial with the authorities - resulting in 2 staff of the Jajarkot Permaculture Programme being clapped in irons for 28 days for using anti-government "statements" (it's a lie!)
